Communications & Storytelling Intern

About the role

The Communications and Storytelling Intern will support the United Nations Resident Coordinator's Office in Asmara, enhancing the visibility of UN priorities, partnerships and results across Eritrea.

Key responsibilities

• Source and develop human‑interest and results stories from UN entities and joint initiatives.
• Draft and edit web stories, newsletters, social‑media copy, briefing notes and other communications products.
• Adapt approved content for the United Nations in Eritrea website and digital platforms, supporting regular updates.
• Assist with content planning for international days, campaigns, events and joint UN initiatives.
• Manage LinkedIn and Instagram platforms, including content scheduling and draft posts.
• Coordinate with UN Communications Group focal points to collect information, photographs and materials.
• Support communications for coordination mechanisms such as the UN‑Ministry of Information Task Force.
• Assist with event communications, documentation and visibility materials, and maintain content archives.

Required profile

• Enrolled in a graduate programme, final year of a bachelor programme, or holder of a bachelor’s, master’s, PhD or equivalent degree.
• Computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
• Demonstrated interest in United Nations work and commitment to the Charter.
• Ability to interact respectfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Preferred fields of study: Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, Digital Communications, International Relations, Development Studies, English or related.
