Resident Coordinator – United Nations (Eritrea)

About the role

The Resident Coordinator (RC) is the highest‑ranking United Nations development representative in Eritrea, responsible for leading the UN Country Team and ensuring coherent implementation of the UN Cooperation Framework and the 2030 Agenda.

Key responsibilities

• Represent the United Nations at senior government levels and engage with civil society, bilateral and multilateral partners, academia and the private sector to advance national development priorities.
• Lead the UN Country Team in developing, monitoring and reporting on the UN Cooperation Framework, ensuring alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals.
• Coordinate system‑wide UN support to the Government, fostering preventive diplomacy and integrated development assistance.
• Report directly to the Secretary‑General and provide annual updates to the host Government on framework implementation.
• Promote the UN’s development assets to sustain peace and eradicate poverty in line with the 2030 Agenda.

Required profile

• Extensive experience within the United Nations development system or comparable international development environment.
• Proven leadership of multi‑agency teams and ability to navigate complex political and development contexts.
• Deep understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals, the UN Cooperation Framework and related international standards.
• Strong diplomatic skills and capacity to build partnerships with government, NGOs, donors and the private sector.
