Resident Coordinator – United Nations (Eritrea)

About the role

The Resident Coordinator (RC) is the highest‑ranking United Nations representative in Eritrea, responsible for leading the UN Country Team and ensuring coherent implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework and the 2030 Agenda.

Key responsibilities

• Represent the United Nations at the highest levels of government and engage with civil society, bilateral and multilateral partners, academia and the private sector.
• Lead the UN Country Team in developing, monitoring and reporting on the UN Cooperation Framework in close consultation with the Government of Eritrea.
• Coordinate system‑wide UN support to the Government, fostering preventive diplomacy and integrated development assistance.
• Advocate for accelerated action on the Sustainable Development Goals and ensure accountability across all UN agencies operating in the country.
• Report annually to the Secretary‑General and the host Government on the implementation of the UN Cooperation Framework.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑level experience in United Nations development programmes or comparable international development environments.
• Deep understanding of the 2030 Agenda, Sustainable Development Goals and UN system coordination mechanisms.
• Proven ability to work with government officials, donors, NGOs and private sector stakeholders.
• Strong leadership, diplomatic and communication skills.
