Grid Integration, Protection & Power Systems Engineer

About the role

The Grid Integration, Protection & Power Systems Engineer will lead the design and analysis of grid‑connected generation, battery energy storage and hybrid power facilities in Eritrea. The role involves performing load‑flow, short‑circuit, protection, stability and power‑quality studies and ensuring compliance with local grid‑code and Eritrean Electricity Corporation requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead power‑system planning, modelling and grid‑integration design for generation, BESS, hybrid systems and associated distribution networks.
• Perform load‑flow, short‑circuit, fault‑level, protection coordination, stability and power‑quality assessments using approved utility data and standards.
• Develop protection philosophies, relay‑setting calculations, synchronization schemes and commissioning procedures.
• Prepare compliance matrices, technical specifications, design reports and interface‑control documents.
• Support testing, commissioning, factory and site acceptance tests, and resolve grid‑interface issues.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Power Engineering (Master’s preferred) with at least 12 years of relevant experience.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in grid studies, protection engineering and utility interconnection, including at least three grid‑connected projects of 10 MW or more.
• Proven experience in East‑Africa or weak‑grid environments is an advantage.

Required skills

• Power‑system modelling and analysis tools: DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, PSS®E, PSCAD, MATLAB/Simulink.
• Load‑flow, short‑circuit, protection coordination, stability and power‑quality assessment.
• Knowledge of IEC and IEEE standards, grid‑code compliance and utility interconnection requirements.
